The garden leads out to the picturesque Coastal Walk between Shanklin and Sandown (part of the Isle of Wight Coastal Path) with fantastic views across Sandown Bay also leading to the famous Shanklin Chine with a pathway down to the sandy beaches. Within easy reach by foot are the picturesque Shanklin Old Village with its thatched roofs and the beautiful Rylstone Gardens.

To get to The Clifton from any port come via Newport then first follow signs to Sandown. Ignore signs to Shanklin about 2 miles past Newport and again at the mini-roundabout in Apse Heath. In Lake (9 miles from Newport) turn right at the T junction where the road is marked Shanklin.After a mile go half left at the Five Ways traffic lights signposted Ventnor. This is Queens Road. The Clifton is at the far end of Queens Road on the left.If you are coming from Ryde via Sandown simply follow signs to Shanklin and the directions from the Five Ways lights.
